Draft Day Fall Out

It turns out that I am not brilliant at picking the NFL draft. Oh well, add it to the list. Here is who the Packers actually drafted and when:
Round# Overall# Packers' Pick
1 16 JUSTIN HARRELL, DT, Tennessee
2 47 Traded to Jets along with 7th-round pick (235) for Jets' picks in rounds 2 (63), 3 (89) and 6 (191)
2 63 BRANDON JACKSON, RB, Nebraska (Acquired from Jets)
3 78 JAMES JONES, WR, San Jose State
3 89 AARON ROUSE, SS, Virginia Tech (Acquired from Jets)
4 112 Traded to Steelers for Pittsburgh's picks in rounds 4 (119) and 6 (192)
4 119 ALLEN BARBRE, OT, Missouri Southern St. (Acquired from Steelers)
5 157 DAVID CLOWNEY, WR, Virginia Tech
6 191 KOREY HALL, LB/FB, Boise State (Acquired from Jets)
6 192 DESMOND BISHOP, LB, California (Acquired from Steelers)
6 193 MASON CROSBY, K, Colorado
7 228 DeSHAWN WYNN, RB, Florida
7 235 Traded to Jets
7 243 CLARK HARRIS, TE, Rutgers

On the surface this looks like a total failure of my pre-draft picks, but lets see if we can do some spinning. First, I had the Moss deal getting done for a fourth rounder, point for me. I did have the deal getting done to the wrong team, lose the point. I thought the Packers might take upto 2 line man, they only took 1, thats not so bad. I went with the pre-draft nine picks and not the actual 11, so bear that in mind. I had us taking one TE, one safety, one linebacker, two receivers and two running backs- all of which we did, though I was way off on who and where. We did not draft a quarterback (though we did sign one), and we did draft a kicker and FB. Also I had no idea we would take a DT. So looking back at from a certain perspective, I did awful, but from another perspective, I just did pretty awful.

Draft Day

Draft day is back, and I have to confess this is always one of my favorite days of the year. I hate the pacing of the draft, but usually I like the trades, and the picks and the projections. You can almost talk yourself into believing that this is the draft that is going to put you over the top. Having said, only twice in my life have I ever actually predicted who the Packers might take at a particular slot (Terrell Buckley and Derrick Mays) niether of which worked out great for the Packers. My thoughts this year are that I am nervous about picking a RB in round 1, maybe too many visions of Brent Fulwood in my head, I think the Packers will pick up a receiver today, either Moss or drafting one (all the Wisconsin guys are convinced we love Meachem from Tennessee), a CB/S, a RB, a TE, and then more depth at LB and OL. Also if Ted Thompson is anything like Ron Wolf, which I believe he is then you will probably see us take a QB late. The Packers have a total of nine picks which I think may go this way:
1. CB/S- the best one available.
2. TE-Best one available, but don't be shocked if we flip flop one and two.
3. RB- Michael Bush? Maybe.
4. WR-Traded for Randy Moss.
5. LB-Someone we have probably never heard of, although maybe the short LB from FSU
6. RB-Don't be shocked to see them double up on RB's, although a special team returning WR makes sense here too.
7a. OL- Some interior lineman, C or G
7b. QB- If he is still here, Jordan Palmer UTEP
7c. OL- More depth

That's my two cents, now the Packers will go out and make me look like a fool. I must watch more sports and be worse at predicting them than anyone else on the planet.
