Tower of Shalom
Destroy
Demolish
Dethrone lies of pride,
of knowing
not loving
of owning
not caring
Renew
Rebuild
Recreate ways of seeing
of looking
not staring
of breathing
not gasping

Remorse and regret are not repent.

Incarnation
Rubble on rubble
Boxes on box springs
Homes on the border
Made on hope and a shoestring
What can we call grace?
How much of this is blessing,
Pain and punishment?
Our comfort is unrelenting.
Watches for schools
Houses for orphans
Jobs for cash
Just next door to the promise land
God cares about our hearts,
To save us from the pit.
Come in flesh Lord Jesus
Save us from this bull shit.

Okay- you're losing me on a few points... How can you say ouldn't look for principles in Scripture, (let alone everything else)? If there aren't "principles" then what do we read Scripture for? How does Scripture transform the hearer then? Things I should avoid, pursue, etc.
Granted that it's not a blanket "do everything you find" but still...
“Scripture must hold up to the knowledge we already have, not transform that knowledge.” I’m not sure where you’re going on that one…
2. Jesus is not a cross cultural missionary because....
Aren’t we supposed to do life/worship/ministry from what we do have of Christ’s life?
3. Am I saying what this guy (http://www.theopraxis.net)is saying?
If Jesus is not here today living and walking among us, how are we to know what he expects of us?
What do we do then with Jesus’ commands? Epistles? Nothing in Scripture is universal? Hmmm...
that beginnig should read "How can you say we shouldn't look for principles..."
Sorry about the confusion. This quote at the end of the first question is the result of reading for principles, not what I believe:
The point, now longer than I meant, is that when we read in principles, Scripture as God's word transforming its hearers comes second. Scripture is not the given. Scripture must hold up to the knowledge we already have, not transform that knowledge.
Were you reading my blog for principles?
Aren’t we supposed to do life/worship/ministry from what we do have of Christ’s life?
Sure. But is believing Jesus to be a cross cultural missionary aiding in this or is it really removing us a further step from the life of Christ. By adding these strange foreign categories, we are attempting to make Jesus relevant or pertinent to vast array of fields (cross cultural ministry to banking to youth ministry to running a Denny's), but what becomes relevant isn't Jesus, its the principles themselves. Plus it begins by assuming that Jesus must be made relevant rather than Jesus as King over all creation. This is particular true about the commands of Christ. The problem with principles is that they tend to insulate us from the commands of Christ not help us follow them. Jesus tells the rich young ruler, sell all your possesions and give to the poor. Principle: God loves a generous heart. Command: Feed some poor people. You can do this with almost every command of Jesus, and still call yourself a literalist and value Sripture. Odd really.
OK- that one was it... "Scripture must hold up to the knowledge we already have, not transform that knowledge." Shouldn't Scripture transform my knowledge if my knowledge is somehow contrary to/a little off from Scripture?
In a sense yes. The underlying problem, I suspect is that the job of scripture is not to get ideas and knowledge into our head. I just don't see it. Scripture is about revealing God. Transforming us into a people who recognize God's call. There is certainly a cognitive element to that, but pretty much only in so much as God undoes what we already know. In short, there is not a bridge to revelation, its all God's grace. This by the way has huge implications for why or why not to vote, or help make the world a "better" place and so on...
